Home Schooling in COVID Times

Nani PK |

COVID-19 has been a major disruptor for all fields across the World. Education has seen an abrupt closing for quite a long time. Since everyone was bound to practice social distancing, the children were forced to stay at home. At that time homeschooling was the solitary option left to keep the children studying as educating the kids is necessary. Mothers seeing their kids learn before their eyes kept them satisfied as it was done according to their values. But parents especially mothers are always working and are occupied, homeschooling was another task for them to manage. To teach the kids they have to give them proper attention and time, which is quite difficult considering their busy schedule. Taking out time for them was not as easy as it seemed as they are constantly working without any breaks. Even some schools could not provide online classes and so they were solely responsible for teaching their kids.

Homeschooling Along with Housework

For a lot of mothers, homeschooling did not turn in their favour because they had to make their children sit in front of the screens or learn from the books, and concentrate on what is being taught. Mother's were generally concerned about their housework and usually chores, along with their children. Thus education was solely dependant upon the mothers' attention towards their children. A mother has so much on her plate when it comes to home and children. The single sole has to manage all the house herself, do the daily chores and attend to their children. Children seem to make the usual work more hectic and stressed for the mothers, which in short makes them tired.

Social Isolation & Frustration of Children

The children do not interact with their fellows leading to social isolation. Routines of both the parents and kids have been disturbed. The social isolation led to children being frustrated and depressed. With the students’ mental health not at their best, learning and memorizing their work became hectic and difficult for them, severely affecting their academic results. Homeschooling might have worked for some people during covid but to make students socially and physically active, going to school is very important. They learn about different things from their fellows and teachers which they might not be able to learn at home. Staying at home all the time can make them lazy and they would not want to interact with the outside world. The mothers are relaxed without worrying about teaching the kids themselves, knowing their kids are learning properly and are doing well physically and mentally too. A Mothers Way of Home Schooling

Since Homeschooling has been a motive here due to the pandemic, it has been evident the mother has more work on her shoulders when it’s about their children’s education. She keeps the other work at bay and focuses more on her children. Moreover, teaching the kid about the different subjects is not only her main goal but manners and etiquette are other goals. She can do so much for her children, then why don’t we do something for; A motive of Kiddoo to help mothers in their daily life.
